The Nice People Theatre Company is the vision of a group of passionate, talented, dedicated and versatile theatre artists.
We recognize the importance of collaboration and that the process is equally as important as the final product. Therefore, we strive to work with ‘nice’ people of diverse theatrical backgrounds.
We are focused on intellectual, thought-provoking, Philadelphia premieres that entertain, educate, and enrich the artistic fiber of the Philadelphia theatre community.

What’s in a name? We call ourselves Nice People Theater Company because we believe that coming to theater should feel akin to coming to the home of a friend for a good meal, or a place where you can expect the nourishment of good food, good company, good conversation, and good ideas, in an atmosphere of warmth. We invite the Philadelphia community to share the sustenance of great theater under our roof.
We seek to develop and perform new and contemporary plays that speak to our moment. We produce Philadelphia premieres that bring intelligence and depths of emotion to the stage — plays that tell the stories of characters whose lives and fates parallel, reflect, and illuminate our own. With our work, we strive to impact the local community by providing an outlet for self-exploration and discovery.
We are interested in plays that have strong characters and that tell rich stories. We like pieces that expose characters’ raw nerves and deep emotions. We are interested in stories told from the perspective of outsiders, plays featuring unusual situations and offbeat, imperfect characters, and works that challenge conventional expectations. We are also, but not exclusively attracted to plays by women, whose voices we continue to feel are underrepresented in theater, and we are drawn to plays that feature women in central roles. We cater to an audience base that has a thirst for cerebral experiences and yet set out to make theatre that is accessible to everyone.
We are a young company and we are growing into and constantly developing our mission. We expect to evolve as we grow. But at the core of what we do will always be an excitement for sharing passionate artistry with our audiences — the same kind of excitement that occurs when you can’t wait to share your favorite restaurant, book, movie, or music discoveries with your friends — the feeling that by welcoming them through a newly opened door, you enlarge their world and thereby your own.
